The Hiller Aviation Museum opened in 1998 and is the only privately owned aviation museum in the United States, funded by Dr. Stan Hiller and his family. Dr. Hiller had a passion for aviation and spent his career as a rocket scientist, inventing some of the earliest aircraft technology, and his family wanted to share his love of aviation with others. Additionally, the museum includes plenty of interactive exhibits, displays, and artifacts. The Hiller Aviation Museum houses seven main exhibits, including the “How Things Fly” exhibit, which uses interactive displays and multimedia presentations to explain the physics of flight. There’s also a full-size replica of the Apollo 11 Command Module and an interactive Exhibit Hall, filled with photographs and documents related to aviation history. Aside from all its educational value, the Hiller Aviation Museum is also downright beautiful. The museum has regular evening events that take on a more romantic tone, with string quartets and classic films related to aviation playing in the background.
